Over half of China's underground water polluted

A report from the Ministry of Land and Resources says nearly sixty percent of China's underground water is polluted. The ministry found that among 5,118 testing spots in 202 cities, 42.5 percent had relatively poor underground water quality.

The groundwater in another 18.8 percent, that's over 960 spots, tested as poor. The report also showed that the hardness of water and the content of total dissolved solids such as iron, manganese, and fluoride highly exceed standards. Heavy metal excesses were also detected in some other tested spots.
