April exports surge 4.1%, imports down 5.7%

China's foreign trade declined slightly in April. Data from the General Administration of Customs shows it declined by 0.3 percent compared with same period last year. Exports surged 4.1 percent to 1.13 trillion yuan, while imports slipped 5.7 percent to 827 billion yuan.

Over the past four months, China's foreign trade dropped by about 4.4 percent to 7.17 trillion yuan year on year. Exports were down 2.1 percent and imports were down 7.5 percent. Trade with European countries recorded growth in the past four months. However, trade with major partners such as the US and ASEAN countries was weak.
