China's health, police and transportation authorities have jointly established a 'green passage' to ensure the quick and safe transfer of donated human organs. According to authorities, police will help ensure ambulances get right of way when donated human organs are received. This will shorten transportation time and help improve patients' chances of survival.

In emergency cases, airlines should provide priority boarding services and allow planes carrying human organs to depart first. Airfreight services could also be enlisted to help when necessary.

Meanwhile railway authorities will be expected to help health organisations reschedule to the nearest train departures when transporting organs. Tickets could be bought after boarding a train under the scheme.

Storage times for many human organs are limited under current medical technology to prevent transplant failure. For example, a liver cannot be stored for longer than 12 hours. And for hearts, it's only 6 to 8 hours, while the maximum storage time for lungs is from 8 to 12 hours.
