In Zurich, youth teams from around the world are competing in the Blue Stars FIFA world cup and one side who have made the trip is China's Guangzhou Evergrande. The Red and Gold have found the tournament difficult but as Dan Williams explains, the young Chinese players know playing against the best can only improve them.

Preparing to challenge one of the finest youth teams in world football.

West Ham United lay in wait for China's Guangzhou Evergrande on day two of the Blue Stars FIFA Youth Cup. The English side has produced some of the country's finest footballers in recent times including the likes of Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand.

Although Evergrande made a bright start to the match, West Ham demonstrated their competition experience and eventually ran out 3-0 winners.

But the West Ham coaching staff was still impressed by the Chinese team.

Although Guangzhou Evergrande appeared to improve as the games progressed, the team failed to win a match.

The coach, Marco Pezzaiuoli, believes more international exposure will help his players.

"Yeah, I think we need more experience. More games at this kind of level. This is the third time we have been to Europe but always with different players and you see they play not bad, especially the last two games. The ball technique is very good but the physical part and the experience to do the right thing in the right moment. That is the main point they need to learn," Pezzaiuoli said.

This tournament may not have quite gone according to plan for Guangzhou Evergrande but the players are in no doubt that they return to China having gained valuable experience and a determination to improve.

For some of the Guangzhou Evergrande players, the wait to return to Europe won't be long, with the club already planning a number of tours and matches for later in the year. This tournament may have been tough going but the determination to improve and compete against the best remains.
