Japan is marking the 69th anniversary of its constitution coming into force on Tuesday.

While celebrations are expected, Japan's Kyodo news agency says that demonstrations are being planned against the new security laws, saying they are a serious violation of the constitution.

Polls show that 60% of the public oppose the amendment, which would allow Japan to send troops overseas for the first time in 70 years.
