Kishida has signalled the visit aims to mend ties between the two neighbors. Wang Yi said during the meeting that China welcomes Japan's efforts, if they are sincere. He said China hopes to see concrete action rather than just empty talk.
Wang Yi reaffirmed China's commitment to develop healthy ties with Japan, but added that the relationship must be built upon mutual trust. He urged Japan to face up to the two countries' wartime past and honor Tokyo's postwar commitments. He said he hopes Kishida's visit could play a positive role.
