Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has met his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida in Beijing. The two talked over ways to warm the strained ties between the two East Asian neighbors.

Wang said China hopes to have a healthy, stable and friendly relationship with Japan, and put forward four points to improve bilateral relations. He said Japan must stick to the principles stated in China-Japan Joint Statement and One China policy, and profoundly reflect the history of its aggression to China. This serves as the political basis of a better China-Japan relationship. Japan and China must also see each other as a partner and no threat to eath other.

The two sides should also enhance pragmatic cooperation under an equal and win-win principle. Regarding international and regional issues, China and Japan must respect each other's righteous interests and make joint efforts to safeguard world and regional stability.

Kishida thanked China for its help to the people in the earthquake-affected area and vowed to manage differences to establish a new China-Japan relationship. Kishida is paying a three-day visit to China, the first by a Japanese foreign minister in four-and-a-half years.
