Volkswagen posted huge losses in 2015 as the company struggles to cope with the aftermath of its emissions testing scandal.

Net losses for the German automaker came in at 1.36 billion euros last year. That's compared to a net profit of 11 billion euros in 2014. Volkswagen CEO Matthias Mueller says that regaining consumers' trust will be the company's most important task until the very last vehicle affected by the scandal has been put in order.

VW sales were barely affected by the emissions scandal as a total of 9.9 million cars were sold to customers in 2015. That's 2 percent fewer than in the previous year. In fact, sales revenues in 2015 were up 5.4% to 213.3 billion euros. The losses in 2015 was mainly due to the huge cost of provisions that had been set aside to cover the emissions scandal. The provisions have risen to 16.2 billion euros from an earlier estimate of 6.7 billion euros.

Mueller said at a press conference Thursday that Volkswagen will accelerate its transformation this year and the company aims to have a more efficient structure by next year. He also says that the company is planning to launch over 20 additional models by 2020.

He said in response to a question from CCTV at the press conference that China is among Volkswagen's most important markets and that market was barely affected by the scandal.

"As far as I know, only 2,000 cars sold in the Chinese market were affected by the rigging scandal. All the affected cars will be fixed within this year if the repair is carried out at the fastest speed. So I really don't think the Chinese market will be affected by the scandal," said Mueller.
