Wall Street ended slighter higher on Wednesday after fears eased that the Federal Reserve would strongly signal plans for a June interest rate hike.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose about 0.3 percent. The S&P 500 gained 0.16 percent. The Nasdaq Composite ended 0.5 percent down. Six of nine S&P 500 sectors rose with energy gaining 1.9 percent at most. Three sectors fell. Technology led the fall, losing 0.46 percent after Apple shares slumped more than 6 percent following its first revenue decline in over a decade. Let's hear chief economist at Stifel Nicolaus & Co Lindsey Piegza's comments on the Fed's announcement.

"Well, it was a little on the dove-ish side. If you look at just to that topline assessment, but the Fed also backed away from the language that was really highlighting their concern of international events. So, they removed the international risk language and replaced it instead with a promise to continue to monitor events occurring abroad. So, the Fed really giving an opportunity for a June rate hike should domestic conditions continue to improve back to a moderate level," Piegza said.
