Electric vehicles make up less than one percent of the Chinese car market, but they're really coming under the spotlight in the Chinese capital.

Twelve percent of the cars at the show are "new energy models", predominantly pure electric cars. It's not the reserve of the famous Tesla either.

Other top brands like Volkswagen and Audi are also having a cut at this market. Meanwhile, China wants to have five million electric vehicles on the road by 2020. Local brands have invested almost six billion US dollars into this concept over the past five years.
