The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has announced that over 80 million euros will be funded to the Nuclear Safety Account, or the NSA.
This will support the safe decommissioning of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The European Commission pledged the largest part of 45 million euros. The amount is an additional pledge to the existing support the NSA receives.
The Japanese ambassador to Ukraine said the fund is intended to provide dry storage for the more than 20,000 spent fuel assemblies in the Chernobyl plant, for a period of at least 100 years.
