Sunday marks the first Space Day of China. Chinese President Xi Jinping has encouraged the country's space scientists and engineers to usher in a new chapter in aerospace development.
Xi Jinping asked them to "seize the strategic opportunity, and keep innovating to make a greater contribution to the country's overall growth and the welfare of mankind." The president expressed the hope that "China's aerospace science and technology staff members remain innovative, and reach higher levels in the industry."
Referring to the reasons for establishing the China Space Day, he said "We are commemorating history, passing on the spirit, and galvanizing popular enthusiasm for science, exploration of the unknown and innovation, particularly among young people."
