The Chief of Staff, Ri Myong Su, reported military work on the meeting. Ri reiterated the country’s warning against South Korea and the U.S.’s ongoing military exercises and threatened to carry out preemptive strikes.
The day before, the DPRK’s foreign minister Ri Su Yong in New York told American media that if South Korea and U.S. halt the annual military drills, the country would like to stop its nuclear test in return.
But the South Korean foreign ministry dismissed the DPRK’s offer, saying it must stop linking the annual U.S.-South Korea war games of defensive nature to its nuclear provocations.
The DPRK Saturday fired a ballistic missile from a submarine in its eastern waters. It was one of multiple missile tests the country conducted since earlier this year.
