Mei Baojiu led the famed Mei Lanfang Peking Opera troupe. His father, after whom the troupe is named, was one of the most revered Peking opera singers.

And Mei Baojiu was the only descendant to perform female roles like his father. He was known for his performance in classic pieces, including “Farewell My Concubine,” “Guifei Intoxicated,” and “Lady General Mu Takes Command.”

Mei had made significant contributions to cultural exchanges and promoting Peking Opera traditions. Some of the top level performers still active on stage were his students.
