Full coverage: Paris Climate Agreement
China received widespread praise for its crucial contributions during the negotiation process in the historic Paris agreement. It worked closely with other countries and played a responsible and constructive role.
Though facing huge development demands of its own, China has become a staunch supporter and active contributor in the global climate campaign. Before last year's summit in Paris, China signed an array of bilateral climate agreements with big emitters, including the US, which gave a strong boost to the summit.
At the opening ceremony, President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China's pledge to cut carbon emissions by 60 to 65 percent by 2030 from 2005 levels, and peak its carbon emissions by 2030. Climate change and ecological efforts have been integrated into the five-year development blueprint. China has also fulfilled related policy commitments of South-South Cooperation. It's providing an independent fund of 20 billion yuan to help developing countries affected by global warming.
