Second place Tottenham Hotspur were looking to take a step forward in the race for the title, after leaders Leicester settled for a draw with West Ham over the weekend. Spurs trailed the Foxes by eight points after that result, but could trim the deficit to five with a win at Stoke. And the visitors would look to Harry Kane and Dele Ali to provide all the firepower they needed.
Tottenham go on the attack right away, with Sir Harry of Kane finding the back of the net in just the ninth minute.
Tottenham 4 - Stoke 0
Alli would double the road team's lead in the 67th, before Kane strikes again, making it 3-nil just four minutes later.
And Alli makes it a two-brace kind of day in the 82nd, as he and Kane lead Spurs to a 4-nil thrashing of the Potters.
"I think that it was fantastic. From the beginning, I think that we dominated the game, and we fully deserved ... the result. And, yes, I think ... I ... like a head coach, and all my coaching staff is, we feel very proud of our player(s). We showed character, (hunger), passion about the game... I think," said Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham Manager.
"An early goal that's ... that's hurt us again. Second half we, we're trying to push and force the issue, and that plays ... into Spurs hands. They've got good quality, strong, forceful play, plenty of pace and, we found it very difficult to cope with that this evening," said Stoke manager Mark Hughes.
