Taiwan authorities invited several experts on international law and geography to the Taiping Island in the South China Sea on Friday. The move is to refute the Philippines claim that the Taiping island is a reef.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said both sides of the Taiwan strait share the similar position on the sovereignty of the islands.
"China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands, which includes Taiping Island, and their adjacent waters. The sovereignty has been formed in the long-term historical process, and has an ample historical and legal basis. The Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan strait hold a similar position on the issue , and share the same glorious mission to maintain the historical heritage of the Chinese nation," said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang.
