A powerful magnitude-7.8 earthquake has struck off the coast of Ecuador...It was felt in the capital Quito, and a tsunami warning has been issued.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 kilometers of the epicenter. The assessment is based on the preliminary parameters.
Buildings swayed in Quito, but so far, authorities have not reported injuries or damage. The quake also rattled northern Peru. The Peruvian Navy has also declared a tsunami alert for parts of the country.
