In Syria, more than 11-thousand candidates are running for a seat in Syria's 250-seat parliament.

Syria holds general elections every four years. The last election took place back in May, 2012 -- making this the second time Syria's government has held elections since fighting began in 2011.

The government is expected to release results as soon as next week. The United States has announced it will not recognize the results of the election.
