In Peru, exit polls are pointing to Keiko Fujimori -- the daughter of jailed and former president Alberto Fujimori -- to win the first round with about 38 percent of the vote.
Fujimore's supporters have been celebrating the news. And she waved to many of them from a balcony at her campaign headquarters. As a center-right populist, Fujimori has vowed to preserve democracy and extend 25 years of free-market policies. The battle to come second is a tight one. Pollsters are giving Pedro Kuczynski from the "Peruvians for Change" party a slight lead over Veronika Mendoza from "Broad Front". They're both predicted to finish close to 20 percent. Since it looks like no candidate will secure half of the overall vote, a second round of elections between the top two will be held on June 5. Our correspondent Dan Collyns has more from Lima.
