China's first special envoy for the Syrian crisis, Xie Xiaoyan has praised Russia's military role in the war. Xie said the international community should work harder to jointly defeat terrorism in the region.

The envoy also said efforts to counter terrorists within Syria, will help promote a political settlement for Syria, which China has been pushing for.
