The Chinese Ministry of Commerce responded to preliminary rulings made by the United States in its antidumping investigation involving steel products from China.

Spokesman Shen Danyang said that excess production capacity in the steel industry is a global issue. He said it should be resolved through dialogue, communication and cooperation, instead of trade remedies and investigations.

He also said that China hopes the United States obeys WTO rules, and uses trade remedy measures legally and with caution. Shen urged the U.S. to offer defense opportunities to Chinese companies. He also encouraged Chinese companies involved in disputes to protect their legitimate rights.
