Jordan Spieth, the reigning champ was looking to hold on to his green jacket, and become the first player to go back-to-back at Augusta, since some guy named Tiger Woods did it a decade ago. And the Texan, proved that he is the man to catch after the opening round.

Spieth gets things going with a bird on the sixth to get to minus 2, one of six tweets.

He also took advantage of scoring conditions in the morning, as the greens were receptive as seen by this approach which lands tight to the hole, and sets him up for another bird.

The world number two would sign for a 6-under 66, good enough for the clubhouse lead, as he goes in search of a third major title.

New Zealand's Danny Lee would make a run at the lead, he gets this putt on 16 to fall and gets to four-under.

But he would get into trouble on 18, if you see a golfer drop his club like this, it is never good -- and his tee shot is into the trees, he would finish two off the pace.

Another golfer that was able to score well in the morning was Shane Lowry, this approach on 17 gets him close.

The big, beefy, and burly Irishman had a chance to move into sole possesion of second, but just misses this putt on the low side -- he would finish at 4-under and tied for second.

There was a large group tied for fourth -- three off the pace -- and that includes Englishman Paul Casey. His tee shot on 4 is right on the money.

And he would get hot on the back nine -- check out this long birdie putt on the ten, that gets him to minus-ten and at three-under.

And he was right on target off the tee on 16 -- choosing the right club as he ends up a couple feet away from the cup -- as he ends up in a large group tied for fourth.

Also in that gaggle of golfers in Justin Rose, the former U-S Open champ birdies the third hole as he signs for a 3-under 69.

So Spieth is the man to catch, followed by Lee and Lowry. Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter among that large group at minus-three. Rory McIlroy also in the hunt four-back. World Number one Jason Day would be even par, as was three-time champ Phil Mickelson. China's Jin Cheng, would finish his first ever round at Augusta with a 79.
