Wang Yi meets Myanmar president, senior officials

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has met with Myanmar's new president, Htin Kyaw. Wang Yi said China wants to build on its traditional friendship with Myanmar, enhance high-level exchanges, and strengthen the nations' strategic partnership. Wang added that China could help Myanmar develop its manufacturing and construction industries.

Htin Kyaw thanked Wang for China's support, saying that Myanmar would like to deepen cooperation and increase communication on regional and international issues.

Wang Yi met with Myanmar's opposition leader, Tin Naing Thein, earlier in the day. Wang praised Thein and his party, the USDP, for the role it played in developing Myanmar's strategic partnership with China. Wang also met with Myanmar's commander-in-chief, Min Aung Hlaing. Wang said military cooperation has been a cornerstone of the two nations' friendly relations.
