The Olympic flame for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games will pass through a refugee camp in Athens. It will be carried by a Syrian refugee before being handed over to Brazilian organizers later this month.
Greek Olympic Committee President Spyros Capralos said on Tuesday that a young Syrian refugee who has requested asylum in Greece has been elected as a torch bearer. He said it will be a symbolic, strong moment for the Olympic movement, as the flame is to unite people.
The Olympic flame will be lit on April the 21st in the Greek city of Olympia and will be carried around the country, before being handed over to Rio de Janeiro organizers on April the 27th.
