The Opening day of the Summer Games in Rio is approaching. The Olympiad will open with the lighting of the cauldron August 5th, after a lengthy torch relay.
The flame will be lit months before in Olympia, Greece, -- and the torch will pass through a refugee camp in Athens and then be carried by a Syrian refugee before being handed over to Brazilian organizers later this month.
The lighting of the Olympic flame will take place in April 21st in the Greek city of Olympia, the Ancient home of the Games, and will be carried around the country - including the Elaionas camp in Athens - before being handed over to Rio de Janeiro organisers on the 27th of the month.
The Greek Olympic Committee President Spyros Capralos says a young Syrian refugee who requested asylum in Greece has been selected to carry the torch.
"We think by bringing the flame in the refugee camp in Athens, it's going to be something very symbolic and a very strong moment for the Olympic Movement, because the flame is there to unite people," said Spyros Capralos, Greek Olympic Committee President.
