Rejected asylum seekers shipped to Turkey from Greece are being held at a repatriation centre in the country's north-west. They are now awaiting a decision on whether they will be sent back to their home countries.
The first group -- mostly from Pakistan and Afghanistan -- were shipped there on Monday, under an agreement whereby Turkey takes back all migrants who entered Greece illegally after March 20. In return, the European Union will take in thousands of Syrian refugees directly from Turkey and provide it with money, visa-free travel and progress in its EU membership negotiations. The pact has been criticised by refugee agencies who question its legality, and argue that Turkey is not a safe country for refugees.
