Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has rebuked European leaders for not taking enough asylum-seeking Syrians, despite the controversial EU deal.

Erdogan accused the EU countries of erecting barbed wire to keep migrants out.  He said those nations were more wealthy than Turkey but still did nothing to help. Dikili residents said they did not understand the EU-Turkey deal.

"Turkey took in three million Syrian victims, but it's obvious which countries tried to send them away," Turkish President Erdogan said.

"Just look at how many refugees these countries have taken, countries with a much higher income than Turkey!"

"They captured those who want to go, but they will try again. We can't keep them in Turkey by force. They are not happy about living in Turkey. Neither are we. They don't want to stay here. They are just using Turkey as an entry point," said Husnu Yildiz, Dikili resident.

"I don't understand the reason behind this (agreement). It doesn't seem reasonable," Dikili resident Halil Metin Kocaergil said.

"How does it make sense to take back those who went there? Or send back those who were already there on a one-for-one exchange? We can't figure this out. We don't want them here. Everyone should stay in their countries."
