Sales increase no spring time for economy in Japan

The cherry blossom season is motivating Japanese shoppers to spend more. But it's too short a time to save the country's consumption. More than 60 percent of Japan's GDP comes from consumption but the country is having a hard time getting people to buy more goods.

It is the Sakura, or cherry blossom season, in Japan. Visitors flock into the country from all over the world, joining local Sakura lovers. The season brings strong consumption in Japan. And every year, Japanese stores release a variety of sakura-themed goods. The purpose? To attract more shoppers during the short sakura season.

The cherry blossom season is short and the enthusiasm for shopping won't last long. Analysts say Japan's economy needs more fundamental stimulus but accomplishing that won't be a easy task.

Abenomics had supported the Japanese economy by easing policies. But Kyodo News says that policy is facing a deadlock. That's because both consumption and business confidence are dropping in Japan.
