Let's walk through some of the areas that China and US have already been working hand in hand. In 2015, a new agreement formalizing civil nuclear cooperation between the two countries entered into force which experts said could play a key role in international nuclear safety, security and non-proliferation.
China is building dozens of nuclear energy facilities, which include four facilities from the US-based Westinghouse Electric Company. Also last year, Terrapower, a nuclear power company headed by Bill Gates, struck a deal with China National Nuclear Corp, to build a prototype of a next generation reactor.
China is ambitious in becoming the world's clean energy powerhouse. Currently, less than 3 percent of China's electricity comes from nuclear energy, but plans to bring this up to 15 percent by 20-20, when 23 additional reactors are added. This will help solve soaring electricity demands and improve air quality.
