Internationally renowned female architect, Zaha Hadid, has died of a heart attack in Miami at the age of 65. The Iraqi-British architect was born in Baghdad in 1950. Her notable projects include the Italian National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome, the aquatics centre used in the 2012 London Olympics, and the Guangzhou Opera House in China.
Zaha Hadid Architects, the company she founded in 1979, has co-designed Beijing's new airport with French company ADPI. It will be the largest one in the world upon completion in 2019. Hadid has won many awards and accolades in her lifetime. She was the first woman to be awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize - the field's highest honor. Queen Elizabeth the second honored her with a damehood in 2012. And just last month, she became the first woman to be awarded RIBA's Royal Gold Medal for architecture.
