In Beijing, 80 representatives from 14 countries have witnessed the founding of Global Energy Internet Cooperation Organization. The organization will be committed to building a global clean energy network, a smart energy Internet, connecting power grids across borders.
Users will be able to upload and download power from this net anytime. For example, you can upload the power from your wind turbines and solar panels. The earth is rich in renewable energy, harnessing 0.05 percent of it would be enough to meet global energy demand.
But areas rich in renewable energy are usually sparsely populated. The organization is striving to achieve a cross-continent energy network by 2050. After the global network is built, clean energy could account for 80 percent of global energy use, keeping the global temperature rise to under 2 degrees Celsius.
