Nuclear power could be in for a revival, especially after the climate summit in Paris last year.
Thirty-four nuclear power plants have gone on line since 2010. Still, nuclear power’s share of the global market has been decreasing over the past three years because of rising costs, soft consumption and competition from green technology. Less than 11 percent of the world’s electricity is produced by nuclear power stations.
Worldwide, nuclear power plants have been operating for about 29 years on average, making an industry upgrade urgent. To help with that, 18 plants employing third-generation technologies are under construction worldwide.
Analysts say the industry also needs to reorganize its operational power plants and look for new business models.
