China is expanding its electric power reforms to include the capital city of Beijing and northern regions. There will be no government intervention in  on-grid and retail tariffs for electricity in 2017.

The government will maintain its price guidance for grid transmission prices based their overall costs. The pricing reform was introduced in 2015 and initially covered five provinces and regions. The project has divested 2.5 billion US dollars worth of non-transmission related assets so far. That's more than 16 percent of the total assets owned by the State and regional grids in China.

The first pilot program saved power companies 8.5 billion US dollars in buying electricity from the grid.
