Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says he will proceed with a scheduled sales tax hike next year, unless the economy is hit by a massive shock such as the massive 2011 earthquake.
Abe also told parliament on Tuesday that he wasn't thinking at all about dissolving the lower house and calling a snap election. A weekend survey by Kyodo News showed that nearly 65 percent of those surveyed were against a sales tax increase, up from 50 percent in December.
Meanwhile, more than 80 percent said they didn't feel any economic improvements because of Abenomics.
