WASHINGTON, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Boston Celtics' star guard Kevin Garnett received a one-game ban on Sunday after elbowing Miami Heat guard Quentin Richardson in his face during an on-court altercation Saturday.
Garnett will miss Tuesday's Game Two of their first round Eastern Conference playoff series, while Richardson was fined 25,000 U.S. dollars, announced Stu Jackson, NBA executive vice president of basketball operations.
In the Celtics' 85-76 victory on Saturday, Garnett argued and shoved Richardson in the dying seconds after Boston's Paul Pierce was apparently stumbled to the ground in front of the Heat bench, aggravating a shoulder injury.
Wrapped up by Miami center Jamaal Magliore, the All-Star player threw an elbow at Richardson while trying to free himself and followed with another one.
Garnett was hit with his second technical and automatic ejection, and so was Richardson, Miami's Undonis Haslem and Boston's Glen Davis.
