Woodblock paintings on display in Weifang

Woodblock new year paintings are the highlight of a culture and art trade fair happening now in Weifang, Shandong Province. Weifang is one of the places where woodblock new year paintings originated, and this trade fair will let more people know about it.

The Weifang Culture and Art Trade Fair opened on Sunday morning. It entails exhibitions of seven kinds including woodblock paintings, local culture, painting and calligraphy, folk art, collectibles, contemporary art, and pottery.

The six hundred plus woodblock paintings on display encompass those created in Yang Jiabu and Gao Mi, two cradles of the art in the region of Weifang. The exhibits also include those coming from Suzhou, Tianjin, Sichuan's Mianzhu, Henan's Zhuxian town, and Shaanxi's Fengxiang. These places are also famous for this genre of art. They cover 21 schools of the woodblock new year painting. Award winning pieces of woodblock paintings over the sixty years since the founding of new China are also on display. They showcase the development of the art in the country.

The Weifang Culture and Art Trade Fair attracted eight hundred exhibitors from around the country and over 30-thousand spectators to the opening.
