Special Report: Unrest in Kyrgyzstan |
BISHKEK, April 8 (Xinhua) -- There has been no report of Chinese casualties in the ongoing unrest in Kyrgyzstan, Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Wang Kaiwen told Xinhua on Thursday.
"According to the information we have, those who run business, study or work at Chinese-funded enterprises are all safe and sound to date. There were no reports of casualties," said Wang.
"We have maintained close contact with local Chinese people so far," said Wang.
Some Chinese businessmen suffered property losses as their shops were ransacked or even burned overnight to Thursday, Wang said.
Staff at the Chinese embassy were closely following the developments in Kyrgyzstan, he said, adding another important task is "protecting the safety of Chinese citizens in Kyrgyzstan."
