According to reports, a record number of over 200,000 visitors arrived for the cherry blossoms on a single day on March 20, causing a heavy traffic jam in the area.

The big cherry rush came as an increasing number of travel agencies in Hubei and southern China have organized trips to the campus following the opening of the Wuhan-Guangzhou high-speed railway and beefed-up tour promotions, according to Liu Yigang, a professor at Wuhan University.

The professor says tour groups account for quite a large number of visitors this time of year, with most of them Cantonese-speaking visitors from Guangdong province. People from the southern province can now travel all the way up in only about three hours to enjoy the charm of the cherry blossoms in Wuhan University.
