Nuclear-armed Iran unacceptable: Clinton

2010-03-23 09:50 BJT

WASHINGTON, March 22 (Xinhua) -- The United States can not accept a nuclear-armed Iran and would prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons, said Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday.

"In addition to threatening Israel, a nuclear-armed Iran would embolden its terrorist clientele and would spark an arms race that could destabilize the region. This is unacceptable," Clinton told the annual policy conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the most influential America's bi-partisan pro-Israel lobby.

"So let me be very clear: The United States is determined to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons," said the secretary.
