LOS ANGELES, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Movie star Demi Moore and another Hollywood actress have succeeded in persuading a teen in Florida out of a planned suicide move through Twitter, it was reported Monday.
When posting a tweet on Moore's Twitter page on Thursday, the 18-year-old twitterer was reported to tell Moore that he was thinking of killing himself, saying: "I'm about to go hang myself from a tree outside my house and end my life. I have no reason to live anymore." He then said he would send a live feed of his suicide. "No one cares if I die or not," he added.
Moore responded by asking him if he needed help -- to which the poster replied "Yes." One of Moore's star followers, actress Nia Vardalos, best known as the star of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," saw the tweet and called a suicide prevention hotline in Los Angeles, which contacted Florida police. As police were dispatched to the youth's home, Vardalos stayed online with him until he was found at his computer desk crying and placed in protective custody.
Moore, who has 2.5 million Twitter followers, thanked the " Twitterverse" for supporting someone in pain.
