China announces additional aid to quake-hit Chile

BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) -- China will provide additional aid worth 2 million U.S. dollars in emergency relief materials to quake-hit Chile, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Thursday.

The aid materials will depart for the Chilean capital city Santiago from the Beijing Capital International Airport at 4 p.m. Beijing time, according to a statement posted on the MOC's official website.

The materials are expected to arrive at 1:30 p.m. local time Friday.

The 2 million U.S. dollars worth of aid includes 700 tents, 10,000 blankets, 100 portable power generators, 2 water purification units.

The Chinese government has already sent 1 million U.S. dollars in cash to the country Monday.

The death toll of the earthquake that shook the center-south region of the country Saturday has risen to 802, Chilean Deputy Interior Minister Patricio Rosende said Wednesday.
