Iran is fully cooperating with IAEA: foreign minister

GENEVA, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Iran has fully cooperated with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Monday.

"We have fully cooperated with the agency and we will continue to cooperate," Mottaki told a press briefing here.

Earlier in the day, IAEA chief Yukiya Amano told reporters in Vienna that his agency can not confirm that all nuclear material in Iran is in peaceful activities because Iran has not provided the agency with the necessary cooperation.

The IAEA's Feb. 18 report states that Iran had failed to answer questions about documents allegedly showing the existence of a secret nuclear program.

Iran said the documents were forged.

Mottaki maintained that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful, stressing that its uranium is used strictly for medicinal purposes and the generation of electricity.

Mottaki also said that Iran is still interested in exchanging its low-enriched uranium for 20-percent enriched uranium from other countries.

"We agree on the swap and because of that we are still having talks."

Last week, Iran rejected the IAEA-proposed fuel swap and sought instead to either buy the fuel or conduct a simultaneous exchange within Iran's own territory.
