TOKYO, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- A tsunami as high as 3 meters could hit Japan's Pacific coasts following a powerful earthquake that struck Chile Saturday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Sunday.

The tsunami is expected to hit Hokkaido and Izu-Ogasawara islands around 1 p.m, followed by other areas along Japan's Pacific coast.

The agency has just issued a tsunami warning for the area.
