WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou will meet with U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington on March 9, according to a statement released by the White House on Friday.
The White House said that the two leaders would consult "on a broad range of strategic issues."
"Greece is a long-standing ally of the United States in our shared efforts to promote stability and prosperity both in its region and around the world," said the statement.
Greece, which has been experiencing a sovereign debt crisis recently, has dragged down the value of the euro, raising fears about the European Union's economy.
It was reported that the Greek debt crisis is related to the U.S. giant financial institution Goldman & Sachs' investment.
U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said on Thursday that the central bank will review derivatives transactions between the Wall Street and the Greek government that might be used to help Greece hide its debt.
