BEIJING, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- China hoped the international meeting on Afghanistan in London would help speed up Afghanistan's reconstruction process, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Thursday.

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi was scheduled to attend the London conference Thursday and deliver a speech, spokesman Ma Zhaoxu told a regular press briefing.

China expected participants of the conference would hold in-depth discussions and evaluate the situation and major challenges in Afghanistan objectively and accurately, Ma said.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and senior diplomats from other countries will attend the international conference that will focus on the country's security situation and reconstruction.

Frequent bombings and attacks, mostly by the Taliban militants, have hindered Afghanistan's reconstruction.
