COLOMBO, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's office said on Wednesday that Rajapaka is heading to a landslide victory in the country's sixth presidential election.

"Although the official result will be announced at around 04:00 p.m. local time (1030 GMT), the president's victory has been secured," an official from the Presidential Secretariat said.
Officials from the Department of Elections said that although the initial results showed the president has got reelected, the formal result will be announced late afternoon.
Rajapaksa called the election two years ahead of schedule with his main challenger being former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.
