According to the report, Dr. Massoud Ali-Mohammadi, professor of the Tehran University was killed by a remote control bomb attached to a motorbike.
The explosion took place near the professor's home in Qeytariyeh neighborhood, in northern Tehran, Press TV said.
Local ISNA news agency reported that the professor was a nuclear scientist.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) said on its website that Mohammadi who was "a committed and revolutionary Tehran University professor" was killed in a "terrorist act by counter-revolutionary and arrogant powers' elements."
IRIB also accused "the U.S. and Zionist (Israel) agents" of being involved in the terror attack.
"By the bomb which the U.S. and Zionist agents had already placed near his house, two cars and a motorbike were severely damaged and the window glasses of the nearby houses broke," IRIB said.
"The intelligence systems of the country are investigating the hidden dimensions of the incident and are tracing the Zionist agents involved in this terror attack," the report added without more elaboration.
Iran's official IRNA news agency quoted an unnamed policeman as saying that the number of victims during the bomb blast was still uncertain.
