According to a recent report on the smart phone market disclosed by ChangeWave, a market survey institution, Google's Android operating system has drawn intense attention during the last several months based on the excellent performance of the Motorola Droid mobile phone and from public recognition of the Google Nexus One mobile phone.
The report pointed out that 22 percent of people polled in December 2009 hoped to buy a phone with the Android operating system compared to September 2009 when only 6 percent of people polled hoped to do so. At the same time, the approval rate of the iPhone operating system dropped from 32 to 28 percent while the rate for RIM's BlackBerry rose from 17 to 18 percent, Windows Mobile's rate declined from 9 to 6 percent and the Samsung Palm also dropped from 6 to 3 percent.
The Motorola Droid is the most popular mobile phone among all similar products adopting the Android operating system. Its potential approval rate has increased from 1 to 13 percent. The potential approval rate of HTC mobile phones also rose from 5 to 9 percent. Reporters believe that the approval rates will change sharply after Google Nexus One mobile phone is formally launched.
Android is close to the iPhone in terms of consumer satisfaction. 72 percent of existing users feel very satisfied with their mobile phones with the Android operating system, slightly lower than the 77 percent approval rate of the iPhone operating system, but notably higher than the 41, 33 and 25 percent approval rate of the BlackBerry, Palm and Windows Mobile operating systems respectively.
