Special Report: Macao 10 Years On |
MACAO, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao left Macao Sunday afternoon after a two-day tour to the Special Administrative Region (SAR).
Hu, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission, arrived here Saturday.

During his stay, Hu attended a celebration gathering marking the10th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland and the swearing-in ceremony of Macao SAR Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On and principal officials of the third-term government of the Macao SAR.
At a dinner in his honor, the president announced that the central government has decided to give a pair of giant pandas as a gift to the Macao SAR to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR.
The president met on separate occasions with chief executives of the Hong Kong and Macao SARs and principal officials of the two SAR governments as well as celebrities from all walks of life in Macao.
Hu also inspected the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Garrison Troops stationed in Macao, attended the opening ceremony of the Macao Science Center and the ground-breaking ceremony of the University of Macao's new campus on Hengqin Island, and visited a local family and an incineration plant.
